Rockstar released Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26, 2018. The game follows Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang in 1899, as the gang’s way of life is being squeezed by a changing country. Rockstar’s own description gives the setup; this entry leaves room for a personal note without pretending one has been written.
It belongs on the same shelf as Just Cause for an interesting contrast in open-world design. One is known for fast, improvised movement and spectacular chaos; the other spends more time on pace, atmosphere, and the texture of moving through its setting. That is a comparison of their broad design approaches, not a ranking.
